Oct 5 2008 - Alberta Beef Producers Outstanding in their field – literally
(Calgary, Alberta) October 20, 2008 – An exciting tribute to the Alberta beef industry is building this week as two more, larger-than-life art murals depicting real Alberta producers are placed in two separate locations close to Calgary.
These two murals follow the launch of the Alberta Beef Producers Raised Right campaign that began with the unveiling of the first mural - rancher Dean Kennedy of Pincher Creek - at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site of Canada in August.
“The Raised Right campaign is a reflection of the heritage and values that producers across the province stand for and the world-renowned beef they deliver,” says Roy Eckert, Promotion Committee Chairman, Alberta Beef Producers.
Artist John Cerney of Salinas, California captured the images of producers Brian Lane and his daughter Holly Lane of Claresholm, Alta. and Colin McNiven of Duchess, Alta. for these latest murals. Cerney will be installing the 22ft high murals onsite this week. The Lane mural is just south of Airdrie on the east side of the QE II Highway and the McNiven mural is located south of Dunbow road on Deefoot Trail, also on the east side of the highway.
The Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) represents the collective interests of the more than 30,000 beef cattle producers who are stewards of the industry in this province. ABP is a proud reflection of this industry. Run by producers for producers, it is dedicated to maintaining a truly sustainable, competitive industry for the benefit of all society. Aug 5 2008 - Alberta Beef Producers launches new campaign Raised Right.
Calgary, Alberta (August 5, 2008) – The Alberta Beef Producers paid tribute to cattlemen across the province with the unveiling of a larger than life mural on August 4, 2008 at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site of Canada.
This mural is one of four and launches the Alberta Beef Producers’ new campaign, Raised Right.
“Alberta’s beef producers raise world class beef and are stewards of the land, livestock and the industry, and we feel that the Raised Right campaign truly celebrates their commitment and work ethic,” says Erik Butters, Chairman, Alberta Beef Producers. ”The Raised Right campaign is a reflection of the heritage and values that producers across the province stand for and for the world-renowned beef that they deliver.”
The campaign centres on four rural murals; larger-than-life paintings of four, real-life Alberta beef producers. The first mural, unveiled at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site of Canada, shows Pincher Creek rancher Dean Kennedy at work. This mural is appropriately placed at the Bar U Ranch Historic Site of Canada along the Cowboy Trail, on the corner of Highways 22 and 540.
“We couldn’t think of a better place to kick off the campaign. The Bar U Ranch commemorates the history and importance of ranching in Alberta and the murals are a tribute to the people who make the industry what it is today,” says Butters.
In attendance at the event were Alberta Agriculture Minister George Groeneveld, Roy Mclean the Reeve of the Foothills M.D and his wife Lenore McLean, one of the RancHers in the previous ABP campaign. Their granddaughter Caitlyn Mclean will be one of three new faces in the next stage of the Raised Right program.
Three other murals will be erected over the next few months; all painted by artist John Cerney of Salinas, California. The remaining three murals will capture the images of other Alberta ranchers: Brian Sutter from Red Deer; Colin McNiven of Duchess and Brian Lane and his daughter Holly of Claresholm, Alberta. The location of these murals will be announced closer to their installation dates.
Alberta Beef Producers also launched their new website RaisedRight.ca this week. The site will celebrate and promote the values that make the Alberta beef industry what it is today: world renowned and an important part of Alberta’s economy. Video profiles of each of the Rural Mural producers will be on the site as well as information about beef, contests and links to related websites.
The event also included an Alberta beef barbeque and musical entertainment by Trevor Panczak of Magrath, Alberta.
“We are excited to launch the Raised Right campaign and we hope everyone will enjoy it and share in our pride for the people who continue to build the industry and ensure its future,” says Butters.
